Happy Sunny August Days from Executive Director Edward Amey

August 17, 2020

Happy Sunny August Days!

With the temperatures on the rise, I canā€™t believe itā€™s already August 2020, and kids (and teachers) are returning to school! But, school looks a lot different this year. Classrooms are now kitchen tables, living rooms and backyards. Itā€™s also like that for momā€™s and dadā€™s ā€œoffices.ā€ I still enjoy the longer days though, and the opportunity to go for walks with my family after work because itā€™s still light out. I like the vibe of summer, even though itā€™s different this year. We are being creative, we are leveraging technology, and we are still making the mission of Jay Nolan Community Services real in the lives of people every day. This necessary new creativity has expanded our skills, opened our eyes to new opportunities, and helped us grow as people.

New experiences are an important part of life. When we practice a new skill, overcome an obstacle, master an assistive communication device or develop a new relationship, they open up a world of possibilities. These things all have a start, followed by a lot of work and challenge that builds character and skill. This is part of everything we do here at Jay Nolan. As I have been sharing with you throughout this year, we engaging in the ā€œnow,ā€ while planning for the future. Because the current environment we find ourselves in, does not change the fact that everyone has the right to the pursuit of happiness. And that pursuit may require changes in our approach or the tools we use, but the pursuit carries on. May you each experience wonderful new experiences this month, and everyday along the way!

As the wonderful American author, psychotherapist, and motivational speaker, Richard Carlson put it, ā€œcircumstances donā€™t make a person; they reveal him or her.ā€ Jay Nolan Community Services is committed to being a lifelong partner to the individuals we have the privilege of supporting in their pursuit of happiness. We bear witness to their amazing character, commitment, contributions. We believe that in a community of diversity and inclusion, where all its members have the opportunity to experience life as an embraced member of that community, anything is possible!

Thank you for your support and commitment to Jay Nolan and its mission.

Edward Amey, MS
