February 24, 2015

Mission Hills, CA (PRWEB) February 24, 2015

Since 1993, Jay Nolan Community Services has provided individualized community based supports to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. One of JNCS unique service approaches is Independent Living Service (ILS). The ILS program allows each individual the opportunity to begin living a more self-reliant and self-supporting lifestyle. While most organizations do offer traditional services such as group homes and day programs, Jay Nolan Community Services (JNCS) understands the value of living a self-sufficient lifestyle. While relying on others may diminish self-worth, JNCS takes active steps to help provide direct instruction for individuals to successfully learn to independently live, work, participate, and connect with their local communities.

To date, Jay Nolan Community Services has helped over 9,750 people with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities and is currently assisting over 400 others by effectively providing services in a personalized and individualized manner. In order to achieve this, JNCS employees help develop an Individual Support Plan by learning about an individualā€™s hopes, dreams, desires, as well as any needs for assistance and support through a discovery process. Next, employees work with individuals to create a Circle of Support, which utilizes encouragement from family, friends, co-workers, and/or other allies. The Individual Support Plan and the Circle of Support help each individual achieve interdependence and independenceā€”two critical components for any person to be successful and attain a sense of self-worth in life. Ultimately, this personalized action plan provides opportunities to allow people to live in their own homes, to have real jobs, maintain daily schedules, and to have friends and maintain positive relationships.

Jay Nolan Community Services believes in the importance of working within natural settings, such as in the personā€™s home as well as in their community and all supports are provided only in real environments. The goal is to assist each person in maintaining daily control over his/her life and personal health by emphasizing that each person has the ability to make personalized decisions that will facilitate independent living and achieve personal dreams. Once the Independent Living Service is utilized, each individual has the opportunity to begin living a more self-reliant and self-supporting lifestyle.
