Action Alert – Make sure the CA budget includes community services
Whoever you are, Whatever your reason for caring:
- Are you a person receiving services?
- Do you have a family member receiving services?
- Do you work in support of people who receive services?
If you have a stake in the future of community services, take 3 minutes NOW to make a difference!
The Legislature has proposed a budget that will provide vitally needed funding for community services. These funds will begin to make up for the decades of freezes and cuts to our services. It will allow organizations to continue providing critical services and, lead to desperately needed wage increases for many of our precious direct support professionals. But the Governor has not yet agreed to include these funds in the final budget agreement. You can tell him how important this is to you and urge him to support the Legislature’s proposals.
But time is short, a final agreement could be reached at any time now.

- If you are a person who receives services You can say :
“I count on developmental services. Please include the Legislature’s budget to fund the provider rate study in your final budget agreement. Funding the rate study will mean the services I use can improve and that my direct support staff won’t have to quit to earn more money. Without my staff, I won’t have services. Thank you”
- If you are a family member you can say:
“My name is John Smith, I have a family member who depends upon developmental services. I urge you to include the Legislature’s budget to fund the provider rate study in your final budget agreement. Funding the rate study will mean raising the poverty wages for our critical direct support staff. Without these precious people, we have no services. Thank you”
- If you are working in support of people you can say:
My name is Sara Smith, I work providing developmental support services for wonderful people. I urge you to include the Legislature’s budget to fund the provider rate study in your final budget agreement. Funding the rate study will mean we can continue providing vital services and that more of us can look forward to wages above the bear minimum . We want to continue, but we also need to have a wage we can live on. Thank you.
