On October 4 - 6, 2010, in Southern California, Four Swimmers Will Attempt to Make History in Catalina Channel to Benefit JNCS.

Never in the history of open water swimming have four consecutive channel crossings been attempted anywhere in the world - until now! Four elite athletes, each swimming 22 miles in the open ocean amidst sharks, dolphins, and whales, will take on this ultimate endurance challenge for one cause - for the people of Jay Nolan Community Services.

JNCS Resource and Training Center Present Webinar: Developing Meaningful Employment Opportunities - Even in Down Turn Job Markets

Wed., September 8th, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (PST) 11a-1p (MST) 12-2pm (CST) 1-3pm (EST). Cost is $75 U.S. Dollars.

Presenter Cary Griffin comes back for a second training on this important topic.
He will share proven best practices to building satisfying, meaningful jobs around a person’s preferences, skills, talents, abilities and goals. This presentation is designed to expand the world of employment opportunities for people with autism and other disabilities. Learning objectives include:

Understanding the Three Vocational themes

Framing the Informational Interview Process

Understanding the proper use of Resource Ownership and other Economic Development Strategies in Job Development

Griffin shares his strategies for taking Discovery information and refining several vocational themes, into what he calls concrete solutions based on a functional economic development approach to employment. In the past two decades Griffin has co-authored books, built communities of economic cooperation, created high performance organizations, and focused on creating meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities.

Presenter Cheryl Jorgensen, PhD, from Institute on Disability / UCED. Since 1985, Dr. Jorgensen has worked with teachers, parents and administrators to increase commitment and capacity for including students with disabilities in general education classes. Dr. Jorgensen is the director of the National Inclusive Education Initiative (NIEI) and is a member of a national coalition of leaders promoting Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Education.
